Electronic payment transactions in the corporate sector are in the midst of an important technical changeover: the MBS standard (Multi Bank Standard) used to date is no longer being developed further. The new standard EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard) - a harmonised European communication standard for the secure transmission of bank data.
We are already reorganising our processes for you
We are already working intensively in the background on the changeover to the new standard. If necessary, we will contact you so that we can implement this effectively with you. As MBS will be discontinued at the end of the year, companies must deal with this immediately.
Efficient bank data import into accounting
A key argument in favour of using EBICS is the ability to continue to automatically transfer bank transactions to accounting on a daily basis - through bank statement posting. This eliminates manual postings, avoids errors and increases processing quality. The prerequisites for this are a state-of-the-art interface between the accounting software and the bank server as well as corresponding read access to the business account, which must be set up at the bank. This is central to efficient accounting services.
MBS as the previous standard for corporate clients
In Austria, the MBS standard has been the established solution for transferring bank data for many years, particularly in business banking. Numerous banking solutions such as BusinessLine (Bank Austria), George Business (Erste Bank and Sparkassen) or ELBA MBS (Raiffeisen Group) are based on MBS. The last major update to this standard took place in 2017 and no further development is planned.
In addition, unmaintained IT systems harbour security risks. A switch to modern, regularly updated solutions such as EBICS is therefore strongly recommended from a technical point of view.
What is EBICS?
EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard) was introduced as a Europe-wide standardised transmission standard for bank data and replaces MBS. The aim is standardised, secure and cross-border communication between companies and banks.
Both MBS and EBICS are used to transfer bank data, such as account statements and payment orders. The latest version of CAMT.053 can only be transferred with EBICS (e.g. real-time transfers).
Recommendation for entrepreneurs
- Companies that are new to payment transactions should now start directly with EBICS.
- Companies that are currently still working with MBS should synchronise the changeover in good time: Support for MBS only runs until the end of the year.
